    I have only backed up once using this G drive so far and it went very smoothly.

    I will say I was very concerned about the drive being dead on arrival, so I plugged it in to check it. Guess what! “Dead”! — or so I thought. It turns out the drive must be plugged into your computer AND be plugged into a power source. It will not power on without being connected to your computer. I am wondering how many other people have made this simple mistake.

    As for cases to put the drive in. I wish Amazon would offer up suggestions, but no one makes a case specifically for this. I found a couple case that ought to fit. I was concerned about having enough padding, but they are all about the same (skimpy). I am using the BAGSMART travel cable organizer, and the drive fits with room for the cords along side it.     This is the third G-Technology G-Drive that I have purchased over the past several years. The first two drives have been very reliable and very fast. My recent purchase of the 6TB G-Tech Thunderbolt G-Drive appears to be no exception. I am using it as my Time Machine backup drive and it is as fast or faster than any drive I have previously used. Since I just purchased the drive, I cannot comment on its long-term reliability, but so far it has not caused me any problems. I will update this review should it do so. This drive comes preformatted from the factory to be compatible with OS X so it is very easy to set up if you own a Mac; pretty much plug and play.

    The only issue I have with the drive, and it is a very minor issue, is it is not as quiet as some external drives, such as the Apple Time Capsules I have previously owned. The G-Tech drive whines when it starts up but it is not enough to be an issue for me. Be aware of this if you’re expecting a drive that is absolutely quiet.

    I have 4 of these drives for my DJ business and they are very fast with very little latency on accessing files. I have run DJ sets with HD music videos for 5+ hours without these drives getting hot. The drive case is solid aluminum and very well crafted. I was using Lacie drives and noticed Lacie drives have more latency than these G-Techs. I highly recommend them!
